People ask fairly often what our collection names mean, usually assuming they are decorative Sanskrit chosen for sound. They are not. Each names a specific idea, and the four together form a sequence built deliberately. If you are deciding which to buy first, this is the guide.
ARKA, The Sun and What It Costs to Shine
Arka is a Sanskrit name for the sun. It also means ray, and also to praise or shine, the word carries all three at once, which is the point.
The sun in Vedic thought is not gentle. It is the source of everything and relentless: it does not stop, does not rest, and burns whatever comes too close. Surya's chariot has seven horses and never pauses.

YAMA, Restraint as Freedom
Yama has two meanings usually treated as unrelated. It is the deity of death and dharma. It is also the first limb of Patanjali's eight-fold yoga: the restraints, the things you do not do.
They are not unrelated. Both point at limit, the boundary that gives a thing its shape. A life without limit is not free; it is formless.

VANVAAS, The Necessary Exile
Vanvaas means forest-dwelling, and specifically the exile, Rama's fourteen years, the Pandavas' twelve. In Indian narrative, exile is never punishment alone. It is the period in which the protagonist becomes capable of what comes next.

WARLI, The Return to the Circle
WARLI is the only collection named for a people rather than a concept, and that is deliberate. The Warli of Maharashtra paint stick figures in continuous spirals, holding hands, the tarpa dance that closes the circle.
